Stripping the “Toxic” out of Detergents - With Washo’s Washing Strips

Environmentally conscious people put a lot of effort into buying sustainably manufactured clothing - that’s awesome! But what about washing those clothes? Are they doing their laundry in a sustainable manner, too?

Regular leading brands of laundry detergents often contain harmful chemicals, which lead to negative effects on both health and environment. Solvents and brighteners can remain in clothes long after washing, decompose relatively slowly, and can be toxic to marine life.

More and more people are starting to ask themselves: Do I really want to wash my carefully chosen sustainable, eco-friendly clothing with substances that are this toxic? What are good alternatives?

Let’s have a look at an alternative, sustainable and eco-friendly detergent: Washo

Washo - (Not Really) Reinventing Washing

Actually, Washo freely admits to not “inventing” (let alone reinventing) anything. The idea of washing strip originally comes from Canada. But they’re the basis for what makes Washo so sustainable and clean compared to conventional detergents:

Washo’s other signature product is a natural dryer ball made from sheep wool. The wool balls shorten the drying time, remove wrinkles from clothes and bed linen, and are therefore a sustainable, energy-saving alternative to fabric softener or plastic dryer balls.

As Lukas, founder of Washo, states: “Washo puts an end to overdosing and unnecessary environmental pollution.”

The Benefits of Washing Strips

Most people are unaware of the fact that many conventional detergents don’t just wash microplastics out of their clothes - they contain microplastic themselves. Add to that the fact that liquid detergent is very easy to overdose and comes in non-eco-friendly plastic packaging.

Washing strips, on the other hand, don’t contain microplastic and therefore don’t add to the pollution of rivers and oceans. They completely dissolve in the water during the wash cycle. They’re also incredibly leight-weight and can also easily be packaged in eco-friendly, sustainable cardboard.

Washo’s Sustainability Commitment Goes Beyond Clean Clothes

Washo contributes to the protection of nature, and acts socially and sustainably as a company in several different ways that go far beyond the sustainability of their products. For one, Washo is certified as a climate-neutral company and compensates for all CO2 emissions, partnering up with numerous organisations like 1%-for-the-Planet.

Other partners include Charity:Water, to whom Washo donates 10% of their profit for clean drinking water, and Tree-Nation, with whom Washo plants a tree for every pack of Washo sold. In buying Washo, customers aren’t just washing their laundry in a sustainable way - they’re also helping to provide Ugandan families with clean water and supporting the reforestation of our planet.
